Mabel M. Cherney, 85 formerly of Mosinee/Milladore died on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Kennedy Park Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Schofield.
Funeral services will be 11am Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Martens/Rembs Funeral Home in Junction City with Pastor Thomas Graves officiating.
Burial will be in Runkel Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine, Portage County with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
Visitations will be on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Martens/Rembs Funeral Home from 4-7pm and again on Friday from 10am until time of services at the funeral home.
Mabel was born on February 2, 1927 in portage County to Otto and Mary Johnson.
She was united in marriage to Leonard F. Cherney on September 25, 1947 at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Junction City. Leonard passed away on October 21, 2003.
Together they raised six sons. They farmed the Cherney Homestead in Milladore which later was sold to the oldest son, Harvey.
In 1974, they moved to a home they built on Church Road in the town of Knowlton. That is when she started working for Del Monte, Inc. in Plover. She retired after 26 years of service.
Mabel took great pride in her gardens, giving fruits and vegetables to family and friends. She was known for canning most everything possible.
She is survived by her children, Harvey (Pat) Cherney of Blenker, LaVerne (Carol) Cherney of Wisconsin Rapids, Bruce, Dale and Keith Cherney all of Mosinee; seven grandchildren, Todd (Sarah) Cherney of Wonewoc, Kimberly (Darin) Langoff of Wisconsin Rapids, Gregory (Tonya) Cherney of Viola, Matthew (Heather) Cherney of LaValle, Wade (Sara) Cherney of Nekoosa, Derick Cherney of Stevens Point and Marcel Cherney of Tomahawk and eight great grandchildren, Erica, Maisie and Hunter Langoff, Asia, Chase, Trenna, Cate and Sidney Cherney.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, son Dennis in 1999, two sisters Hazel Adamski and Alberta Britten, four brothers Henry, Martin, William and Otto Johnson and a brother-in-law Ray Cherney.
